In the beginning, it was clear to our team that the advances in saliva for testing are the wave of the future for the development of instant diagnostic (rapid) tests. We began with testing for alcohol and drugs of abuse. Our early testing showed that utilizing small amounts of saliva resulted in identifying the target along with complete accuracy. The Alcohol Stik® was the first product we developed. A simple and easy tool that produces clear and accurate results in less than 2 minutes with no false negatives. The second "Stik" product we developed is for detecting "Illegal Drugs of Abuse", which can identify up to 7 different drugs at once on one (1) test Stik, including marijuana, with results within just 3 minutes.
And now, AMD has developed the IQStik®, a saliva-based test for the deadly COVID-19 virus with results at home in just 5 minutes. A few years ago, AMD had researched the SARS virus, which turned out to be 80% of the work that needed to be done on the COVID-19 test because COVID-19 and SARS are from the same family of viruses and share most of the same details. The early symptoms of COVID-19 and SARS are very similar, including fever, cough, headache, shortness of breath, and breathing difficulties. These Coronaviruses are made up of a large family of viruses that are defined by the lipid coating that covers them.
AMD and its research team noticed that most tests out there (at this time) only tested for PCR. Very Complicated. The PCR test starts with a throat swab or sputum sample from a patient. The swab and sputum sample material is stored in a sterile tube or vial and sent to a lab. When the lab receives the sample, it is tagged and registered with the lab. The specimen is then placed in a machine which then amplifies this unique coronavirus genetic material. These are the antibodies that remain in the body well after the virus is gone (this test on its own is not very reliable). Even after reputable manufacturers took the time to develop an antibody test, it became clear that this type of test on its own for the remaining antibodies was not the real answer that was hope for.

AMD has developed three (3) separate COVID-19 tests on one (1) Stik to address this problem.

The PCR test: The Polymerase Chain Reaction test, also known as Nucleic Acids Extraction, is the most common test for determining whether someone is currently infected. Simply put, the PCR test amplifies the genetic matter from the virus in development; this in turn measures the strength of the viral load, (most important in determining if you are infected) in the sample. The greater the viral load, the more likely the patient is infected. The problem with this test is if you tested too early (sample), the virus has not reached its full strength you will show a negative result. This will lead to that person going out and infecting family and friends, not to mention in the coming days or weeks reacting to the virus himself.
Antigen Test: This test only detects antibodies that have reached a large enough level (developed) in the immune system that will respond to the virus. This test does not detect the virus itself, just detects the antibodies that have developed. The problem also with this test, it may take up to 2-4 weeks for the active antibodies to reach enough of a level to be ID. Again, with this test, should you have tested just two days before enough antibodies have developed (ID) to fight off the virus the test will show negative and you think you are safe.
Antibody Test: The Serological test, also called the Serology test, utilizes blood or saliva that ID’s hibernating antibodies leftover from a successful contact with the COVID-19 virus. This test shows that the person was infected (even if they showed no signs) for some time and that person has recovered from the COVID-19 infection. Researchers do not know whether the presence of these antibodies means that you are immune to the COVID-19 at this time and possibly in the future. Or, your system beat the virus, leaving antibodies dormant in case you encounter the virus again. One way or another, you have been exposed to the COVID-19 virus and you are safe at this time.
